So, if you haven't heard already, there is talk that there will likely be a countrywide chlorine shortage very soon. This is something people in the pool world have been discussing as a possibility for several months. It's something we have personally been keeping a close eye on since last June, as a matter of fact. It was the main driving factor contributing to our price increase this January. Reduced production due to the pandemic, a massive chemical plant fire caused by a hurricane, and extended freezes over the winter have wreaked havoc on the pool industry and the effects will be felt for some time. To try and guess when it will rebound would be impossible given all of the circumstances facing the country right now, but there is speculation it could last for two years, possibly longer.
We wanted to let everyone know that we have been preparing as much as possible in various ways for this since last summer and are confident we will be able to provide all of your regular services without any problems. Some of you already have Salt Chlorine Generators (salt systems) and will not be affected by this shortage, as your chlorine is produced on-site by your system. If you don't have one and are interested in learning more about these systems, please ask. We would be happy to provide you with more information and a recommendation for a trusted contractor to install your new system. There are many to choose from and, as always, budget is one of the main deciding factors.
As far as the chlorine shortage goes, we have implemented many techniques to reduce the amount of chlorine your pool needs in order to stay not only clean and sparkling, but healthy as well. You may have noticed the use of phosphate removers and enzymes on your weekly service notices. Controlling phosphate levels and introducing the power of enzymes to destroy non-living contaminants in your pool, reduces the overall demand for chlorine. These are just two small examples of how we strive to be proactive with your pool care, rather than reactive.
The pool service industry is changing rapidly while new technology and scientific discoveries come to light. We are staying on top of all of these exciting developments and are putting them to use in the field as they come up in order to provide the best services possible. At the same time, supply and demand dictate the operations of many businesses, including ours. As of right now, however, we believe we have positioned ourselves to withstand this chlorine shortage for the foreseeable future and wanted you to know your services will continue without any issues.
Again, if you would like more information regarding chlorine alternatives, please reach out and we will assist you as much as possible. Hope everyone is ready for another great swimming season! We certainly are!
